Stay inspired and motivated while running your home nail salon.
Your passion and love for nails has led you to start a home-based nail salon! You have put in the hard work and investment: getting trained and confident; rearranging your home and setting up the salon space; purchasing quality products, tools, equipment, and furniture; created your business name and social media pages; had business cards printed; organised your price list and online booking calendar; created your business plan and marketing strategy; and all the other little things that have taken you so much longer than expected.
Well done you! It's not easy to achieve all that AND find the perfect decor items for your new salon. Now you have opened your doors for business and may have hit a few glitches. Things like FB Marketplace won't let you advertise your services, your initial flood of clients from the community FB post for $25 nail sets refuse to pay more, council has come around to inspect and want you to spend more money installing a sink, your friends expect free nails, your kids are complaining you are never there for them and start acting out.
The rush of love and excitement you first felt for your new home nail salon may be waning, but don't lose heart. Running your own business, especially from home, can be challenging but it is also incredibly rewarding. There are a few things you can do to recharge your motivation and stay inspired.
Firstly, take a step back and remind yourself why you started this business in the first place. Was it to have a flexible schedule so you could spend more time with your family? Was it to be your own boss and have creative freedom? Was it to provide quality nail services to your community? Whatever your reasons, hold onto them through the challenging times and let them drive you forward.
Secondly, focus on the positive feedback you have already received from your clients. Have they been raving about your beautiful work and attention to detail? Have they recommended you to their friends and family? These are the things that should give you a sense of accomplishment and keep you motivated to keep doing your best.
Thirdly, don't be afraid to set boundaries with your clients, friends, and family. You have put in a lot of effort and investment into your home nail salon, and you deserve to be respected for your skills and time. Communicate clearly to your customers of the costs of your services and products and be firm but polite when enforcing them. Also, set a schedule that works for you and your family, and make sure your clients are aware of your availability. Don't feel guilty for taking time for yourself and your loved ones.
Lastly, don't forget to have fun! Your passion for nails should shine through in your work and the vibe of your salon space. Play your favorite music, experiment with new nail art techniques, and connect with other nail artists in your community. Remember, happy and inspired nail technicians create happy and loyal clients.
As you navigate the challenges of running a home nail salon, always remember to stay true to yourself and your passion. With determination, focus, and a positive attitude, you can overcome any obstacle and create a successful and fulfilling business. You've got this!
